Akamas Peninsula

The Akamas is located at the far north west of Cyprus. It is a largely uninhabited area, a small but dramatic peninsular facing the western sea. The area has been designated as a national park, and is partially forested on the higher ground, with three short nature trails and a northern coastal path connecting them. Standing on the ridge line it is possible to see both the west and the north coast of the island.

On the west coast a number of deep coastal gorges run down to deserted beaches with tiny offshore islands rising from a blue sea, although access to this western area is more difficult.

The Akamas area has some unique shrubs and flowers, best appreciated in February and March. It is the only place in Cyprus that we have seen wild tulips! There are no drinkable water sources on the peninsula so any longer distance walks inevitably require careful planning.

If you would like to walk in the Akamas we recommend you plan for a 2 night stay locally with one full day and one half days walking. For your stay we can recommend a family run hotel on the edge of the National Park, with an excellent beach location.
