Pafos Forest
The Pafos forest is the mountain region to West of Troodos stretching to near the west coat of the island. Geologically and in its flora and fauna it is very much an extension of the Troodos region but the nature of the terrain and difficulty of access have left it largely uninhabited except around its boundaries. Its remoteness has aided the survival of the Moufflon, national animal of Cyprus (see news item), in significant numbers.
The forest offers excellent opportunities, with careful planning, for quite demanding long distance walking, as an example, heading west from Troodos to Stavros Forest Station via the famous Cedar Valley. We can make all the necessary arrangements for accommodation and transport, including for example an overnight stop at the unique Stavros Forest Station.
On the eastern boundary of the Forest, nearer Troodos, we offer a number of day walks into the forest, and some of these are included in our walks pages. The areas we reach include the famous “venetian bridges” used in times past by camel trains to transport precious metals to the west coast.
