Omodhos is very much the tourist centre for the region with most properties having been rebuilt or refurbished generally in traditional style. A number of tour companies from the UK offer package holidays staying in traditional buildings converted to apartments.
Unusually, the village was laid out around a monastery called Timiou Stavrou, (Holy Cross). This probably dates its origins, although not its current buildings, to Byzantine times; since Greek Orthodox Monasteries are rarely, if ever, at the core of settlements. There are no monks in residence now, but the building does have some good wood ornamentation. The narrow back streets with their shops and displays, a wine press and a glass blowing workshop, are worth a browse. There are a few good restaurants away from the large open cobbled square in front of the monastery, with its many kafenios offering drinks only. The village is at its liveliest on the 14th September each year with the festival of the cross which spills from the monastery into the village square.
