This trail can be circular or linear depending on the time you have available. The trail starts at the Psilo Dendra restaurant above Pano Platres and climbs 2000 feet to Troodos square through the deep Kyros (meaning cold) river valley, passing the atmospheric Kaledonia waterfalls.
The route climbs through dense black pine, calabrian pine and golden oak forest and riverside vegetation of plane, alder, and ivy. The path crosses and re-crosses the river, which flows all the year round, on stepping stones and small bridges. Coming out of the valley at the top the trail follows the E4 European Trail route, through the black pines, with good views to the south coast, and then takes the outward leg of the Persephoni Trail to reach Troodos Square.
The return leg loops out to the east along a spectacular forest ridge overlooking the blue green rocks of the old Amiantos mine, before swinging back south and west through black pine and calabrian pine forest to Platres. Time 6 hours for the whole walk, or 3 hours one way. (Mountains Bus Walk. As a linear walk, one of the two legs of the walk, as described, either climbing or descending, can be accomplished by getting off the bus in Platres and walking to Troodos or vice versa.)
