Diarizos River

The E4 European Trail is the principle long distance path of Cyprus. The section to the west of Troodos tracks through the Troodos Forest and into the Pafos Forest passes several villages, churches, and a picnic area.  In a days walking it is possible to cover the section to Kaminaria in 5 hours with stops to admire the wonderful scenery and vistas. Stopping at Agios Dimitrios village reduces this by 1 hour approximately.

Leaving Troodos Square we take the Persephoni trail south and then follow the E4 down and west to the top of the Kyros River valley. The route then passes down the Kyros River valley to the Kaledonia waterfalls before diverting again around the forested west shoulder of Troodos thick with golden oak pine and strawberry trees, with superb long distance views across the mountains of the Pafos Forest, and of the villages clustered around its edge.

Eventually, we leave the undulating track and drop through a pretty picnic area to continue through vineyards, orchards, and wild forest passing the outskirts of the village of Agios Dimitrios. Our route then takes us on an easy winding path with superb views of the Diarizos River valley, to finally descend into the valley to the village of Kaminaria with its four churches dating from the 16th and 17th Century.

(Mountains Bus Walk, but only as far as Kambi tou Kalogirou picnic site time 3 hours. Ferrying back as far as Platres by car is recommended as this provides additional time before the bus pickup.)
