Mount Olympus, the central and highest area on Cyprus, has the most to offer to the walker and visitor; traditional villages, wineries, monasteries and churches, forests and superb mountain scenery. In general terms, when locals refer to Troodos this is the area they mean.

A large network of nature trails has been developed over decades to ensure every part of the area is accessible to the walker. Accommodation is plentyful over a wide price range, and eating out in traditional tavernas is excellent.

The main towns are Platres in the South and Kakopetria in the North. Permanent rivers flow from Olympus both South and North creating unique ecologies and environments. The geology of the area has created a special history over generations from pre-Roman times to the present day.
