Kilani

Troodos Wine Village

Kilani is a lively village by hill village standards with typical traditional Cypriot village architecture and a pedestrianised high street with several kafenio. It has two churches and there is an interesting ecclesiastical museum next to the church of Panagia and a vine museum displaying tools connected with vine growing. Gaining access to either museum is possible given a little time and patience!

If you have time, the winery of Ayia Mavri, actually in Kilani is worth a visit. At one time Kilani was the regional administrative centre. This can be seen by the size of the now disused school we pass on the edge of the town as we climb up the slopes of Mount Afame to head towards the village of Vouni. We climb quite steeply to gain height on Mount Afame, giving some excellent views to the south and west, but after 30/45 minutes or so the track levels and then descends south through working vineyards to arrive at the entrance to the famous Vouni Donkey Sanctuary above picturesque Vouni village, cameras out!.   Time from Pera Pedi to Vouni 2.5 hours.
