Limassol Forest Trails

Limassol Forest Trail

Limassol Forest is managed National Forest of pine, wild olive and carob, terribinth and cypress trees. It has many miles of forest tracks giving easy access to areas of outstanding beauty. These tracks cross, and link at different elevations to form a network of undulating circular paths, offering superb views of the Mediterranean sea and the inland mountain ranges.

The flora and fauna is protected by law, so animals such as partridge, hawks, buzzards, grey foxes, hares, hedgehogs and toads abound, as well as many types of lizard. Many types of butterflies can be seen as well as a wide variety of migrating birds at different times of year. Rock roses and other shrubs and flowers bloom early in the new year here, and the fields below the hills are alive with blossoming fruit trees such as the almond from February onwards.

Small orchards nestle in valleys, fed by seasonal streams on the edge of the forest, growing peaches and apricots as well as oranges, olives and pomegranates. Our walks are circular on dirt forest trails, and range from 2 hours to 5 hours duration, with varying amounts of climbing, very much depending on your wishes. We use the available natural trails as part of the medium to long walks, and reach a high point with good views of Limassol Bay at least once in each walk we take.

A walk here is also good for those occasional days in the season when weather conditions at higher elevations make walking more challenging. The quick access from Limassol means it is often possible to complete an early walk on days when rain clouds gather, finishing before the rain spreads down from the high mountains to the coast.
